Educational stakeholders are increasingly searching for teacher professional development as an essential foundation for complex student growth. In order for students to develop mastery of problem solving, self-direction and communication, teachers must employ a complex variety of strategies. Professional Learning Opportunities are the key to educators refining their pedagogies. OCAC Wuxi defines Professional Learning Opportunities as structured professional learning that results in positive changes in educational practices and student growth. OCAC Wuxi promotes a student-centered environment and comprehensive teacher professional development.

Our vision is to become a model of Chinese international education. Within that model, the OCAC Wuxi mission is to be the bridge that supports our students in meeting their lifelong potential. To provide the best support for our students, we cannot stand alone. Our most important role is the collaboration we foster with our families, students, teachers and the community. We accept this responsibility in bridging the various individuals, and resources, which contribute to each child’s success.

 

2019年3月4日,我们有幸承办了“职业发展学习”研讨会。在充满活力的多元文化学习环境中,承认学生的多样性,我们需要做出更多的努力。16位满怀学习热情的教育工作者参与了此次互动式圆桌讨论,会议中更穿插了团队建设练习和人脉建设。这些教育工作者来自不同的国家,如:美国、南非和中国等。热情好客一直是海归学校校园文化中一个重要的组成部分,总经理陈文达先生首先在研讨会上向大家致辞问好,他友好的举止和开朗的性格深受大家的喜爱。在研讨会上,大家分享了课堂人数安排在过去及现在发生的变化和各自过往的教学经验,同时也通过他人分享的不同场景,就课程内容、主动学习和家长参与等方面的交流做了翔实的学习笔记。此次研讨会以“学习支持”为主题,并包含三个分主题,即:定义并确定学习需求、有效干预策略与协作模式、与父母建立积极的关系。最后,各位与会者带着最新掌握的“基于研究的干预策略”以及通过本次研讨会新建立起来的人脉愉快的结束了此次研讨。

It was indeed a privilege to host a Professional Learning Opportunity on March 4, 2019. A vibrant, multicultural learning environment, acknowledging the diversity in our students requires a conscious effort. The eager group of 16 educators participated in an interactive round table discussion filled with team building exercises and networking. Participants travelled to OCAC Wuxi from various provinces within China, all with one common goal, to gain knowledge and experience. The educators hailed from countries such as; United States, South Africa, and China. Participants were warmly welcomed to our school. The hospitality was second to none. Greetings were presented by our General Manager Mr. Gary Tan. His friendly demeanour and outgoing personality won over the audience. PLO attendees shared classroom demographics and educational experiences, past and present. They were able to take note of various scenarios involving curriculum content, active learning, and parental involvement. Our main topic was Learning Support. However, three subtopics were discussed; Defining & Identifying Learning Needs, Effective Intervention Strategies & Collaborative Models, as well as Establishing a Positive Relationship with Parents. Attendees walked away from the PLO with research-based intervention strategies, and a plethora of networking contacts.

OCAC Wuxi has adopted the Conceptual Framework of Student Support Services, through this model, Advisory, English as a Second Language and Learning Support will exist harmoniously to promote positive student growth. OCAC Wuxi is committed to:

  • Building relationships based upon open and respectful collaboration and communication.
  • Recognizing the value in educating children specifically focusing on academics, as well as emotional and social development.
  • Inspiring all students to demonstrate a greater understanding of diversity by not only accepting unique classmates, but taking a more active role through advocacy, support, and educating others both in their school and the community.
  • Developing strategies through collaboration and intervention. Generalizing school experiences to real-life situations by providing modelling and support.
  • Educating ourselves and others in the latest innovative practices, research, and technology in order to implement exceptional teaching for exceptional children.
